Billions can be invested by public on hydropowerWhen Mega Bank issued primary shares worth Rs 699 million recently, it received applications for over 20 times more at Rs 14.20 billion. Applications of Rs 6.60 billion were received earlier when Commerce and Trust Bank offered shares worth Rs 600 million. Similarly, Civil Bank had received applications of Rs 4 billion for Rs 800 million of shares and Janta Bank Rs 1.80 billion for Rs 600 million.

The nation currently remains divided into two halves in terms of electricity access.

Hydro fallaciesRetail electricity rates in Nepal are set to increase by another 20 percent. In mid-May, the Board of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) endorsed a proposal to increase electricity rates for all consumer categories, except those consuming less than 20 kWh per month. The proposal now moves to the Electricity Tariff Fixation Commission (ETFC), where the measure is likely to be approved.

‘बुधबार आयोजना हुने कार्यक्रम नेपाली लगानीकर्तालाई जलविद्युतमा लगानी गर्ने सम्बन्धमा केन्द्रित हुनेछ,’ रौनियारले भने, ‘प्राथामिक निस्कासनको घोषणा गर्नुअघि कम्पनीप्रति लागनीकर्ताको विश्वास पैदा हुनु आवश्यक छ।’ उनले कम्पनीको उद्देश्य, लगानीका क्षेत्र र उसले भविष्यमा दिने प्रतिफलबारे बुझाउन सके लागनीकर्ता आकर्षित हुने बताए।

NEA to lose Rs 9 b a year after 6 years due to surplus energy in monsoon

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) stands to lose Rs 9 billion a year from 1.80 billion units of electricity that can be wasted in the rainy season after six years as the government and private promoters are only constructing run of the river projects. NEA, however, has projected that load-shedding will continue during the dry season even then.
